S-Tec P.M. Services is a software consultancy led by Les Smyrl MSc, IEng, AMIMarEST, MBCS. Based in Glasgow in the United Kingdom, we have more than 25 years experience of maintenance and the implementation of management software. Our comany is very well placed to understand the customers needs, and how best to satify them.

Les Smyrl spent 18 years in the Merchant Navy as an engineer. Learning to use the computerised Planned Maintenance Systems that were being introduced onboard ships was Les's introduction to computers; that introduction led to an interest in computers that took him off to university to complete a post graduate course in Computer Studies. After graduating he joined SpecTec, a software company supplying Planned Maintenance, Inventrory Control and Purchasing software to the shipping industry.

In 2002 Les formed S-Tec P.M. Services Ltd. as a consultancy, implementing software supplied by several software suppliers. The need to produce tools to assist in the implementation of the software, and a website to advertise his own services, has broadened his skill set.

SISWe are the UK Agents for Star Information Systems AS. SIS is one of the leading provider of software to the shipping and offshore industries, establised in 1997 by senior personnel from the former Norwegian Shipping and Offshore Systems AS. SIS employees were also the developers and key people behind the SFI Group, first introduced in 1967, to provide a coherent coding structure for equipment listing in ships' maintenance systems. The people behind the organisation are amongst the most experienced in the development and implementation of ship and fleet management systems.

The software that SIS provide has the following modules for onboard use:-

Star Document (procedures, drawings, forms, etc.)
Star Event (audits, incidents, near-misses, non-conformities, etc.)
Star Guarantee Claims (claims relating to new builds)

Below are some short case studies of clients we have worked with:-

CTC Helping with the implementation of a computerised PMS supplied to CTC Marine Projects for their cable laying equipment and the ROVs used to repair damaged cables. The main task within that was the importing of equipment and spare parts lists from the spreadsheets supplied by manufacturers.

NOVOSHIP We visited the ships owned by Novoship (UK) Ltd. in order to implement the computerised PMS.

Several spreadsheets with a list of equipment and associated maintenance tasks had been sent to the ship beforehand for the ship's crew to fill out the dates on which each task was last done; those dates were imported into the system.

Crew familiarisation with the software was also carried out.
